Meet Kevin

Kevin Alexander has exclusively practiced family law since 2021. He guides clients through divorce, custody, and support disputes from the first filing through trial and beyond. Clients working with Kevin can expect straightforward communication, realistic assessments, and a clear plan for each stage of their case. He prepares every matter as though it will be tried, which puts clients in a stronger position whether their case settles or goes before a judge. Clients appreciate working with Kevin because he treats them as partners in their case, explaining their options and the trade-offs of each, so the final decision is theirs.

Attorney Specialties: LGBTQ+ Family Law Matters, Child Custody/Support, Divorce, Legal Separation, Mediation, Domestic Violence Restraining Orders, Post-Judgment Litigation (including omitted assets, set-asides, and modifications), High Net Worth Property Division, Complex Support Disputes (including income imputation and variable or concealed income), Move-away and International Relocation, Military Divorce

Kevin has practiced law since 2013, beginning his career in civil litigation handling business, probate, and complex motion practice. He then spent seven years litigating consumer warranty cases in California state and federal courts, managing extensive discovery, and helping resolve thousands of claims, including hundreds through a nationwide class action process. In 2021, he turned exclusively to family law, where he second-chaired trials, argued requests for orders on custody, support, and property, and obtained sanctions against an opposing party and counsel. He joined Cage & Miles, LLP in 2024, where he now serves as a Senior Associate Attorney handling complex financial and custody litigation.

Kevin's approach to representing clients is focused on the long-term result, not just the next hearing, because he understands that the outcomes in a family law case shape a client's finances and family life for years to come. Representative matters include:

  • Represented a supported spouse at a post-judgment support trial, defeating the other party's vocational expert and request to impute income to the client, while successfully imputing his prior salary to him after establishing that his job loss was voluntary, reinstating spousal support for the full retroactive period, and securing additional child support on undisclosed bonus income
  • Represented a father in a contested dissolution trial, securing final orders confirming his sole legal and physical custody, defeating the other spouse's request for spousal support following a long-term marriage, and obtaining child support, a favorable equalization payment, and attorney fee and sanctions awards
  • Represented a former spouse in post-judgment proceedings to allocate a missed community liability arising from a bankruptcy fraudulent-transfer action, resulting in an order requiring the other party to reimburse a proportional share of the settlement and defense costs, plus a six-figure sanctions award
  • Retained just one month before a three-day domestic violence restraining order trial, obtaining the restraining order, sole legal and physical custody, and a full prevailing-party attorney fee award for the client, and later setting aside a prior child support order based on the court's finding that the other party committed fraud by concealing income, with sanctions awarded in addition to earlier discovery sanctions and the prior fee award
  • Represented a spouse in a high-asset, long-term marriage dissolution involving RSU and bonus-based support, forensic tracing of unaccounted-for community funds, and a multimillion-dollar community estate, defeating the other party's requests for spousal support and attorney fees and fully preparing the case for a multi-day trial, resulting in a favorable global settlement on the first day of trial
  • Stepped into a multi-party dissolution pending for nearly five years shortly before trial, reaching a favorable global settlement at mediation that resolved contested characterization of the marital residence, a buyout of the client's commercial real estate interest, a family member's third-party claim, joint custody, and a mutual spousal support waiver
  • Represented a spouse in protecting her interest in a community-owned business during dissolution, obtaining orders restricting owner distributions, requiring monthly accountings and direct access to company financials, and imposing daily sanctions to compel cooperation with a forensic accountant

Outside of practice, Kevin is a history buff and an early adopter of all things tech, whether that means finding new ways to streamline his work or unwinding with a video game. With family spread from France to Denver to the East Coast, he's no stranger to travel, though his favorite escapes are a quiet weekend in Palm Springs or somewhere tropical. At home in San Diego, he enjoys getting together with friends for dinner, drinks, or a show, and admits to a soft spot for a good podcast and the occasional reality TV binge.
